Our new venture for 2010...

Pick-Your-Own Berries!

Thornless Blackberries - Chester and Triple Crown are the main varieties at the farm.  Chester has large, high-quality fruit that ripens in early to mid-August. Fruit has excellent flavor and does not soften or lose its shiny black color in hot weather.  Triple Crown is a later berry, also with large and sweet fruit.

Gooseberries - We have Tixiatm thornless red gooseberries. This red gooseberry is semi-thornless, very vigorous and productive. Fruit is very large with a beautiful, bright red color. Plants are resistant to mildew.

Currants - (White & Black) Blanka is a white currant that yields heavy, opaque, white fruit on long strings. The fruit is tart, but turns sweeter when fully ripe. Ben Sarek is a compact, black currant. The fruit makes an excellent jam or jelly and is recommended for winemaking.

Red Raspberries - Jaclyn is a new, patented red raspberry which is very sweet. Berries are a distinct dark red when ripe.

Elderberries - Samdal has large fruit clusters with good flavor ripen in August each year. Berries have very high anthocyanin content....very good for you!

Our new berry patch was planted in early spring 2009.

The summer has been spent mulching them and helping them grow!

The new berry patch is on the southeast side of the farmhouse.

Picking should begin in late June 2010 with a 50% crop.  Starting in 2011, there will be full production and even more berry plants!
