It all began... in 1940 when Carroll and Clara Barrett with their brand new baby—James Michael—moved their family from the village of Vincent to the surrounding farm of rolling hills.  They raised four sons and two daughters on the farm while dealing in feeder cattle and a variety of field crops.  The Barrett boys traveled the county bailing hay and doing crop work in the summer time.

The youngest, Jim and his wife Mona moved to the farm in the autumn of 1978 and purchased the adjoining farm along SR 339 in 1990. They began milking cows that first year on the farm and named the first cow Sweetapple when they noticed this name scribbled on a pipe in the new parlor. The mixed breed dairy herd and milking facilities are now operated by their oldest son, J.J.

Jim began growing pumpkins to give to friends and to sell by the road in the late 1990’s.  After Jim's death in 1999, the family decided fulfill his dream of an expanded market. They expanded the pumpkin acreage and established a place for others to visit and experience the farm, thus Sweetapple Farm Market was born.

The Barrett family invites you and your family to do just that—come experience the down home family experience of autumn harvest time at Sweetapple Farm Autumn Market.  It’s an experience you’ll never forget!
